My Approach

Holistic psychiatry can be defined as an approach that addresses the psychological, familial, societal, biological and spiritual dimensions of health and illness.

Rather than merely treating a symptom I will work with you to uncover the root cause of that symptom so that you can achieve inner balance. For example, nervous system dysregulation due to unresolved trauma is a root cause of mental illness for many people. Others may need to make changes to their diet and lifestyle. How lonely or connected we feel is another powerful determinant of health. I find that most people struggling with mental health symptoms have a strong inner critic and lack compassion for themselves. Mindfulness and self-compassion are powerful, evidence-based practices that I often teach my patients.

Medications can be a helpful and sometimes necessary tool. However, medications often do not address the root cause of psychiatric symptoms. I will help you decide if medication is the right choice for you. I am also trained in safe de-prescribing. If you have been on psychiatric medications with limited benefit I can help you taper off and explore other healing modalities.
